The very best of the County's boys turned up at Droitwich GC on Wednesday 28th August to compete for the 2019 County Boys Matchplay Title, and the John Fraser Cup. As in previous years every player knew that they had a chance in the 18 hole gross matchplay format.

In the 6 matches played on Wednesday morning, Mark Hewlett (Gaudet Luce and U14 County Captain) defeated Tom Thornton (Kings Norton), Aaron Bryan (Worcester G&CC) defeated James Humphries (Redditch), Harrison Leaver (Gaudet Luce) defeated Tom Lennon (Halesowen). James Ilsley (Stourbridge) won against Santino Francolini (Fulford Heath), Harvey Jones (Kings Norton) beat Tom Blizzard (Bromsgrove) ans Luke Rolinson (Droitwich GC) beat Sam Rowbotton (Kings Norton). Whilst not progressing, all the defeated players confirmed that they had enjoyed the experience, and learnt a great deal form the event.

The afternoon quarter finals saw some inclement weather, which didn't appear to affect the quality of the golf played. Hugh Adams (Hagley) managed to win against Mark Hewlett, Aaron Brayn won against Harrison Leaver, and Harvey Jones defeated local favourite Luke Rolinson. In the closest match James Ilsley and James Yorke played some stunning golf, with James Yorke 1 down at the turn despite being level par. In a tense match, James Ilsley kept his nerve to 2 putt the last to take victory by a single hole.

The second day, Thursday 29th August, promised better weather and the four boys all arrived bright and early to start the semi finals at 8.00am. In the first semi final the scoring was spectacular with Aaron Bryan being 4 under par when he defeated Hugh Adams 5&3. The second semi final was a slightly tighter affair with Harvey Jones eventually taking a two hole victory against the ever consistent James Ilsley.

And so on to the final, with the boys playing their 4th round in two days. Once again the standard of golf was very high from both players, but Harvey Jones eventually ran out a 5&3 winner against Aaron Bryan.

Dave McGillivray, County President, thanked  Droitwich GC for hosting the event, and particularly thanked the members for allowing the County use of their course for two days. He also thanked the catering team, the bar staff, the pro and the greens team for all pulling together to produce a superb venue for the finals.

In response, Harvey also thanked everyone and commented on the very high standard of the course, and particularly the greens.
