A Tough Day At Broughton Heath For U14 Boys Team

A tough day at Broughton Heath for U14 Boys Team
The U14 Team at Broughton Heath GC, Derbyshire. 31.8.19
LtoR : Roger Martin ( Team Manager), James Ilsley, James Humphries, Tom Lennon, Mark Hewlett, Eliot Jones, Josh Griffiths and Mark Hewlett (Assistant Team Manager)
If you thought Broughton Heath was only a short pitch and putt par 3 course then think again. With most of the holes averaging 175 yds and some at 220 yds over water, this is a real challenge for a golfer of any ability. With 18 well designed par three holes and blustery conditions to contend with, the Worcestershire U14 team found the experience to be quite a difficult one. Nevertheless, their efforts and determination to do well never waned throughout the 36 holes of this Midland Golf County Team Championship and they all finished with smiles on their faces, having enjoyed their day. James Ilsley (Stourbridge GC) was our best individual performer. After a bad start he showed great resilience and mental strength to play his final 27 holes in only 2 over par to finish 4th overall, only 4 shots behind the winner. Eliot Jones (27th) and Mark Hewlett (31st) played very consistently to keep the double bogeys off their cards but with 5 out of the six players scores counting towards the team score it wasn't quite enough to prevent the Worcestershire Boys from finishing 10th. Congratulations to Staffordshire, the overall winners.
The County would like to thank all the parents for driving all the way to Broughton Heath for the very early morning start and to Mr Mark Hewlett, for kindly supporting Roger as his Assistant Manager throughout the day. Everyone's assistance is greatly appreciated.
The U14 boys were a credit to the County in how they conducted themselves. They will clearly learn from this experience and move on in good heart to play their next match against Staffordshire at Sedgley GC on Sept 8th.
