Hgaley GC was in absolutely stunning condition to welcome 28 teams of 3 to compete in the Club Team Handicap Tournament. The event is played as a full handicap stableford, with all three scores to count towards the team result. With the players from each team spreed out throughout the day, it is notoriously difficult for the officials and spectators to work out which teams are in with a chance, until at least 2 scores have been posted.
On a beautiful sunny day, the players were to find the course quite tricky. The excellent greens were smooth and true, but a little faster than a few players were used to, and it quickly became clear that a score in the low to mid 30s was likely to be towards the top of the leader board.
After two scores were in for each team there was quite a log jam at the top, and any one of Hagley A, Hagley B, Redditch B, Bransford, Redditch B, The Worcestershire B, Bromsgrove A and Bromsgrove B were in with a chance. As the 3rd, and final scores, came in Hagley A and Hagley B were tied at the top, with 89 points, and they were joined on 89 by Redditch B. However, as other teams fell away, the players in the clubhouse could see that The Abbey were in a strong position, with their 3rd player in the penultimate group. The rumour was that Abdool Rohomon was playing well, and so it transpired. When he added a 33 point score to his team mates, Andy Bennett & Phil Green, who both also scored 33 they leapt to the top of the leader board with a total of 99 points for a clear win.

In the individual event there were a good number of solid scores of 30+, but the 37 posted by Geoff Tibbetts (Hagley GC) was to stay unbeaten, despite very creditable rounds of 35 from both Paul Sumner (Bromsgrove) (2nd on countback) and Jason Keane (Bransford). Timothy Sinden from The Worcestershire took 4th place on 34 points.
