Match Report
Worcestershire U16 Tri-Match vs Staffordshire and Shropshire & Herefordshire - Monday 2 August 2021
Wharton Park Golf and Country Club is a stunning and very testing course in the heart of Worcestershire and hosted this year's U16 Tri-Match. This tricky format consists of each group playing against two teams at the same time so it required complete concentration and a solid game.
The morning foursomes got off to fantastic start for Worcestershire, considering our team was heavily depleted due to injury, sickness and national competition clashes.
With only a couple of our players playing this format once before and only three over the age of 14, we couldn’t have dreamed of a better start. Good wins were recorded against both teams by our Captain on the day Mark Hewlett and his partner Teddy Fee as well as for Cassius Blake and Lewis Tolley and Hayden Sarfo and George Stephens.
With a very quick turn around for the afternoon singles it already looked like the Trophy was going to be a tight run race between ourselves and a very strong Staffordshire team.
Mark Hewlett got us off to the perfect start against both their number one's. He won against S&H and halved against Staffs after watching their player record an amazing birdie on the last. Hayden Sarfo, one of our youngest players, made the perfect U16 debut with a clean sweep in all his matches followed by Ben Lazenby who also won both his singles. U14 player Harry Evans, also making his debut, recorded the biggest win of the day with a 9&8 victory v S&H and a 3&2 win over Staffs. Elliot Jones, George Stephens and Lewis Tolley also chalked up wins against S&H, however, with Staffs convincingly beating S&H in all but one of their matches the Trophy finally went to them. Many congratulations to the Staffordshire Team for winning this Tri -match.

Our thanks go to everyone at Wharton Park. The course was in immaculate condition and the catering was second to none. A special thanks must go to Roger Martin and Bill Thompson for all of their help and support on the day and for Stuart Pritchard for organising the event. However, a huge thank you goes to each and everyone of our players. Their attitude, etiquette and team spirit was exemplary throughout the day and we’re all very proud of you.
