U18s win well against Staffordshire in the league
A superb hole in one for Tom Lennon on the par three 18th gave him a fine singles win.
Match Report : Worcestershire U18s vs Staffordshire U18s Monday 16th August 2021
Droitwich GC kindly hosted Monday's U18s league match against a strong Staffordshire team. Having held numerous county events previously, course knowledge is such a huge advantage for our home team on this beautiful and yet tricky, course.
It was therefore imperative that our morning foursomes got off to a good start and our boys quickly proved that home advantage was to be a key factor throughout the day.
The pairings of Louis Stott (Captaining for the day) alongside James Ilsley and Philip Krone partnering Mark Hewlett both showed total dominance in their 4&3 wins.
James Humphries and Sam Rowbottom and the tried and tested pairing of Tom Blizzard and Tom Lennon both chalked up vital halves in their matches, giving us a 3-2 advantage going into the afternoon singles.

James Ilsley (7&6), James Humphries (4&2) and Mark Hewlett (4&3) all won their singles convincingly but with the remaining matches in the balance this looked for a while, like it was going all the way.
Phillip Krone, Louis Stott and Dan Wakeman all fought hard, against tough opposition for their halves and with just the two matches remaining it was clear we only needed another half point for the victory.
Cassius Blake took us over the line by going dormy up. However, just moments before he birdied the 17th to win his match 2&1, the highlight of the day was happening on the par 3 18th in the group in front of him. Having won the 17th, Tom Lennon stepped up onto the par three 18th tee, 1up. With an 8 iron in his hand he knew that the best shot into this great 158 yard finishing hole had to be left of the green to give himself the greatest chance of victory. Tom could not have struck his shot any better and with a perfectly shaped fade, his ball pitched on the green and rolled straight into the cup. This was to be Toms second ever hole-in-one and gave him an excellent 2up victory. Congratulations Tom.
Our thanks goes to everyone at Droitwich GC. The course was in immaculate condition and the catering was second to none. Special thanks must go to Stuart Pritchard, Bill Thompson, Roger Martin, John Whitehead and Tony Edwards for all of their help and support on the day.
This was a fantastic team effort with every one of our players contributing to our 9 1/2 to 5 1/2 victory.
