U14 Boys with fine performance in Midlands County 6

County U14 Boys Captain at Stanton-on-the-Wolds GC for the Midlands U14 Boys County 6.

The Midland U14 Team Championship took place on Sunday 5th September at Stanton-on-the-Wolds Golf Club. The tournament was a scratch team event with five of our six players gross scores to count. With the competition being a scratch event, our individual handicaps suggested it was going to be tough for our team, as we were ranked 8th of the 10 counties taking part.

On a bright sunny day Hayden Sarfo and George Stephens got us off to a promising start, with scores of 80 and 82 respectively. The Worcestershire 'middle order' of Tom Gilbert, Harry Evans and captain Teddy Fee all showed determination and character in producing creditable scores, even though they had a few challenging periods during their rounds, which they overcame impressively, and all played to their handicaps on a tricky course.

Our final player on course, Ollie Badger, birdied the 18th to finish with an excellent 7 over par score and with that established a very creditable team result of 4th place overall which exceeded expectations. Fantastic! This performance was an excellent team effort and all of the boys coped with the pressures of the event very well, and all of them should be proud of their achievements on the day.

Although it was a scratch event, there was an individual net competition and congratulations to Tom Gilbert who finished 3rd out of the 60 players that took part. Well done Tom!
