U14 Boys continue Unbeaten Season with win against Staffordshire at Gaudet Luce GC

U14 Boys at Gaudet Luce GC - Sunday 19th September 2021 Back Row (l-r) Roger Martin (Team Manager), Alex Perry, Jack Price, Teddy Fee, Callum Jones, Euan Choi, Harry Evans, Mark Hewlett (Assistant Team Manager) Front Row (l-r) Jake Jeff-Johnston, Oliver Ansell, Oliver badger, Beau Langford

The boys U14 team arrived at Gaudet Luce Golf Club full of enthusiasm and looking forward to the challenge of a strong Staffordshire team who had recently finished runners-up in the Midland Team championships. There were debuts for two Worcestershire players - Jack Price (Hollywood) and Beau Langford (Moseley) who were made to feel very welcome by the rest of the team.

It was a tough start to the match with Staffordshire going ahead early in the top two matches, and due to some early nerves. It took a while for all the pairings to settle down but gradually the team started to turn their matches around due to some excellent play as well as using home advantage. The matches remained close but we were able to maintain our advantage for the most part to win 4 of the 5 matches.

Ollie Badger and Teddy Fee who were 2 down early eventually ran out winners and it was a similar story for Harry Evans and Alex Perry, who from 2 down won 4 holes in quick succession on the back 9 to win 3 and 1. The pairing of Jake Jeff Johnstone and Callum Jones established a 3 hole lead at one stage but were pegged back to all square entering the final holes. They eventually managed to re-group and ran out winners 3 and 1. It was a similar story for Ollie Ansell and debutante Jack Price who were involved in a tough match. When Ollie Ansell played a great approach to the 17th green and rolled in a 5ft putt it sealed a 2 and 1 victory. In the last match involving Euan Choi and Beau Langford the match was all square playing the last. To their credit, Staffordshire played the 18th well and achieved victory on the last in a very competitive match.

The final score was a pleasing 4 - 1 victory to Worcestershire and the team remain unbeaten this season. Well done to everyone who took part.

I would like to thank Gaudet Luce Golf Club for preparing the course in excellent condition and for providing hospitality that made both teams feel very welcome. A special thank you goes to the club captain John Wright who performed the role of starter for the day which was very much appreciated. The support from all the parents was tremendous as always, and a special thanks to Mark Hewlett for his efforts in staging the match at Gaudet Luce Golf Club.
