Down To The Wire For The Brandhall Gold Vase

Down to the wire for the Brandhall Gold Vase!
It went right down to the wire for the Brandhall Gold Vase at Kidderminster Golf Club.
On a demanding course, with fast, firm greens and rolling fairways players were thoroughly tested on an overcast, cool morning.
After each team had posted 3 scores, Churchill and Blakedown GC were well out in front, which was where they stayed after 4 scores were recorded and they were in strong position after closest rivals Rose Hill GC dropped out of second place. Rose Hill needed a nett 70 score from their final player Steve Frost to overtake Churchill & Blakedown!
With Steve Frost in the last group to play it was edge of the seat stuff! And, yes, he did it! Steve posted the best score of the day with a nett 69, a score matched by Richard Fletcher of Wharton Park, but Steve had a better back nine score, so took the honours.
A fine win for the Rose Hill team of Steve Frost, Terry Martin, Deryck Walker, Philip White and Craig Williams, and the Brandhall Vase was presented by County President Ian Rone, along with the EGU Centenary Salver to Steve Frost as the best Nett.
Our thanks to all the players and to Kidderminster GC for their support in hosting the event and Club Professional Pat Smith for joining us at the presentation. Thanks also to the referees, Tony Edwards, John Whitehead and John Brothwood, starters Wendy Ray and Colin Day, and Brian Morris on the registration/scoring desk.
