Warwickshire U14 v Worcestershire U14

Our U14 team started the season away to Warwickshire at Copsewood Grange GC. The weather was absolutely stunning and the course was in excellent condition so the boys were excited to get the season underway. A strong first pairing saw Nick Campbell our 2024 captain partner Oskar Nielsen and the Worcestershire boys were 1 up early on with some excellent golf. The standard of golf in the first match was spectacular with the Warwickshire boys eventually winning 4&3. In the second group we had our lowest handicapper Jake Jeff-Johnston playing alongside young Edward Perry. The Worcestershire pair were up early in the match and despite a good fightback from Warwickshire Jake held a 5ft putt on the 16th green to win 3&2. Next up was Logan Lawless and Will Andrews who had partnered each other on many occasions. This match was very close throughout with Warwickshire eventually winning by one hole. In the fourth match we had two debutants in Ciaran Hession-Wilson and Theo Lowe. Both boys were in great form and went 3 up on the front nine after two chip ins from Theo (who is getting a reputation for doing this every week). Again, the Warwickshire team showed great determination to take the match to the 18th green but a fine tee shot from Ciaran and a lovely putt sealed a big point for Worcestershire. In the final match we saw good friends Ewan Clark and Harry McCarthy make their debuts. Both boys played some outstanding shots on the day and Harry held a great putt on the 15th green to seal a 4&3 win.

Congratulations to this inexperienced team for such a strong performance in their opening match of the season. The boys should be very proud of this result and their efforts on the day. My thanks go to Copsewood for such good hospitality and in particular Phil Gaffney the club secretary for all his help. I would also like to say thanks to Kevin Fee who was there on the day to support and advise the boys.
